Betsie River Fishing Report

The flow on the Betsie is low to normal and is super clear! While there are lots of fish in the system, we could use a little rain. Only a few fish on gravel, but the fish that are in the system are VERY aggressive.

Fish the deeper holes. It is clear, so you should be able to see them moving around down there.

My clients biggest of the day went a shade over 20lbs that took us a couple hundred yards down stream. A BLAST on a fly rod! All were caught on a white streamer that I tie up. I will post tying instructions here soon.

Great news!

Anyone interested in learning Spey and two-handed casting! The legendary Chris Owens is looking to come to Michigan and give a 2 day speycasting/ twohanded casting class on the banks of the Pere Marquette.

Chris Owens is famous for his work in the Trout Bum videos. Life long caster and all around great person.

Michigan Fishing License- What You Need

When you are heading up to the Pere Marquette, you are going to want to get the Multi-Species License. The non-resident license will run you $41.00 and is an annual fishing license. There are daily options too if you want to go that route, but either way you will need the multi-species to fish the PM.

Most of my clients get the annual license when steelhead fishing because they often return later in the year for the salmon run.

I had the honor of guiding Ben Wilson! This is one of the many fish he caught and released the end of the first week of Sept on the Pere Marquette River. As a note when fishing this time of year you will also catch pike and smallmouth bass.
